American Gold Rush Black Eyed Susan -
'American Gold Rush' Rudbeckia is a highly lauded, compact black-eyed Susan cultivar (zones 3–9) known for its golden-yellow blooms with black centers, appearing from July to September. As a 2023 Perennial Plant of the Year, it is prized for its extreme resistance to Septoria leaf spot, drought tolerance, and ability to attract pollinators.
Key Characteristics & Benefits:
Disease Resistance: Unlike other Rudbeckia, this variety has hairy, narrow foliage that resists fungus.
Size: Compact, mounding habit, typically growing 18–24 inches tall and wide.
Hardiness: Thrives in full sun, heat, and humidity, while also being deer-resistant.
Usage: Excellent for mass plantings, containers, borders, and as cut flowers.
Maintenance: Low-maintenance; it does not require staking and is self-cleaning, though deadheading can encourage further growth
